A documentary about a late Iranian filmmaker is to be shot by his colleague in Germany.
Mahmud Behraznia, who is based in Germany, told ISNA that the documentary ‘Meteor’ would depict the life of late filmmaker Sohrab Shahid-Saless (who passed away in 1988), and his works produced in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s.
During those years, Shahid-Saless made 14 flicks in Germany, picking themes from the local society, for the shooting of which he was forced to tackle many problems.
On the list of his works, the director produced ‘A Simple Event’ (1973), ‘Still life’ (1974) ‘Coming of Age’ (1976), ‘The Willow Tree’ (1984), ‘The Long Vacation of Lotte H. Eisner’ (1979), ‘Anton P. Checkov: A life’ (1981), and ‘Order’ (1980).
Bareznia started producing his documentary back in 2016, when he tried to get a firsthand account of Shahid-Saless works by interviewing people involved in his movies, including Werner Herzog, the celebrated German filmmaker, who was a fan of Shahid-Saless, and his only daughter Masha.
Behraznia has so far made several documentaries. The most famous of his works, as he himself puts it, is possibly the one about the renowned Iranian cineaste, late Abbas Kiarostami, titled ‘Close to Kiarostami’.
